More than $100,000 raised for Bloorview
More than 400 participants mounted stationary bikes and peddled under the guidance of spin instructors for four hours in the courtyard of the TD Centre at Wellington and York streets downtown.
To date more than $400,000 has been raised through Bike for Tykes for Bloorview, Canada's largest rehabilitation hospital.
"The event was amazing," said Nicole Watson of Bloorview Kids Rehab. "There were over 400 participants this year and we raised approximately $170,000."
Watson said money raised will go toward the Bayview and Eglinton avenues rehab hospital's programs and services, research and technology, respite care, life skills programming, medical training and adapted equipment.
Bloorview, which is affiliated with the University of Toronto in the Annex, serves some 7,000 children each year, with about 600 inpatient admissions and 52,000 outpatient visits.
Bloorview Kids Rehab treats children with cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury, muscular dystrophy, amputation, epilepsy, spina bifida, arthritis, cleft-lip and palate, autism and other developmental disabilities. A small number of clients have complex chronic diseases requiring round-the-clock medical care.
