A woman faces charges in connection with a hammer attack on board a TTC bus in North York Monday.

Police said a woman got on the bus at Grandravine Drive and Arleta Avenue around 11:05 a.m.

“The accused party allegedly made a comment in relation to the fact that the bus driver never picked her up originally,” Const. Tony Vella said. “It’s unclear if she was referring to that day or to another day.”

A woman then attacked the driver with a hammer. Three passengers on the bus came to the driver’s aid.

“The citizens were able to get the hammer off the accused,” Vella said. “As they intervened, they were assaulted.”

The driver suffered swelling to both hands and was taken to hospital for treatment. The passengers weren’t hurt.

Police arrested a woman at the scene and took her to the 31 Division station.

“Police are investigating the possibility she may be emotionally disturbed,” said Vella.

The hammer was seized as evidence.

A 23-year-old woman has been charged with assault with a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, weapons dangerous and three counts of assault.
